A hugely successful concert in St Andrew’s Church, Spratton on Saturday 24th September 2016:

The small Northamptonshire village of Spratton may be off the beaten track, but it has a beautiful Grade1 listed mediaeval church in its midst with an active community support team. The Festival is designed to bring together all the talents in the village for a week of celebration and fun in the unique St Andrew’s church. On Saturday some 36 Boobs and Brass volunteers from far afield performed to a sell-out audience for a fitting finale, and helped to raise over £2000 for charity on the night. This figure far surpassed all previous expectations and is testimony to the pleasure felt by those who were privileged to be there.  “Invigorating”, “joyful”, “poignant”, “simply fantastic” were some of the audience comments afterwards and similar positive comments are still coming in. A fitting finale and truly memorable evening thanks to Boobs and Brass and one which will be fondly remembered by Spratton villagers for many years to come.

This amount is made up of the £834 raised by Dronfield Genquip Band at their Charity Ball last year and £133.43 general donations from supporters.

This payment completes the funding of the current research project that we have been donating to.

We are in the process of selecting another project to raise funds for and this will be the ninth one. Further information on this will follow shortly. We already have £1000 plus in hand to kick this off !!

To date we have raised in total £185,122 - £160,331 for Breast Cancer research charities and £24,791 for other causes.

This is a phenomenal amount of money and we thank you all sincerely for being part of this very unique concept.
Let's see if we can work together and hit the £200K.

Last year Terri Belsey fell victim to breast cancer, one day after her operation she was talking to the President of the Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band, when she was told about and all female brass band who raise money for Breast Cancer.

Through Dennis Wilby who sometimes conducts the band called Boobs and Brass a plan came into play to get the band to Eastbourne for a charity concert. It slowly fell into place with The Kings Centre offering a free venue, friends of Terri’s husband helped with printing, advertising and the local press helped push ticket sales.

Everyone rallied round supplied services and worked hard, for two companies that really pulled out the stops were
Manor Creative and PRG Ltd.

It all came together on the night of November 21st when a fantastic night of music took place in front of a large audience.

The event was superb with a variety of songs and marches being played, and ably conducted by her friend Dennis.

The total sum raised for the event was £3,350.00 just over £1,500 went to the band’s charity Breast Cancer Now with the rest going to the Breast Care Nurses fund at the D.G.H. to help fund days out and support for patients.

Terri is pictured here with Macmillan Nurses Francis Jones and Heather Driver handing over a cheque for £1,828.60 along with Dennis Wilby and his wife Margaret.

Terri said, “I am so grateful for the help I had from the nursing team at the Breast Cancer unit at the DGH, I really wanted to try to put something back and this was a wonderful way of raising some funds to help others with breast cancer”.

On Sunday 10th April the 'up north' Boobs & Brass group performed a concert at Calow Community Centre near Chesterfield and raised £700.26. This will be split between Breast Cancer Now and the Macmillan Unit in Calow.
Many thanks to all the Boobies who played, Stan Lippeatt for conducting and compering, Maxine and Rosey for all your hard work, Glenis, Richard and Gareth who travelled up to help with everything on the night.
